ABOUT

The brainchild of celebrated flautist and music business pioneer Carina Bruwer, ACE's vision is to bring Western based instrumental music to a wider audience in Africa and ultimately worldwide, by using their unique attributes to appeal to both connoisseur and novice alike.

The ensemble came into existence in 2000 as the ACE Trio, when Carina, Este and Anjulie came together for a light background music performance in Stellenbosch. The performance was incredibly well received, and invitations followed from event organisers for the trio to perform at various other events. The girls extended their repertoire and named themselves ACE, an acronym of the first letter of each member's name.

In 2003, with many performances lined up, ACE had built up a small "pool" of likeminded female instrumentalists due to unpredictable schedules of the original members, and performed mainly as a quartet consisting of flute, violin, viola and cello. The repertoire was and is carefully chosen to be unique and exciting for both performer and audience, and is constantly being added to.

Today the ACE Ensemble draws on the talents of a pool of nearly a dozen instrumentalists who perform together regularly. These stylish and talented young women all share a love for performing, with a common goal of bringing their music to music lovers from all backgrounds.
Clients can choose from the following combinations:

Quartet: Flute / violin, violin 2, viola and cello
Trio: Flute / violin, violin/viola and cello
Duo: Flute / violin and cello / violin
Solo: One of our instrumentalists on her own
Larger ensembles: Apart from the standard combinations above, we can also put together larger groups - anything from a quintet to a chamber orchestra.
Other instruments such as saxophone, piano, harp, etc, can be requested to join a standard ACE Ensemble, to perform a special item or set at wedding ceremonies and/or concerts.
A vocalist can join the instrumental ensemble for a special song / set of songs to create an unforgettable moment during your wedding ceremony / corporate presentation / concert.

Album
The album "Classical Seduction" was released in 2007, and recorded by a Quartet consisting of Carina Bruwer (flute), Este Visser (violin), Annemi van der Merwe (viola) and Ariella Caira (cello). It features light Classical favourites such as Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Flower Duet and Czardas, as well as more contemporary works like Piazolla's Calambre and George Shearing's Lullaby of Birdland.
