Annemi van der Merwe
Annemi van der Merwe received the degree B.MUS Orchestral Studies with a distinction in viola from the University of Cape Town, where she also received numerous awards and scholarships, including the I Musicanti Chamber Orchestra Award, the Twamley Undergraduate Scholarship, the Gerry Meyer String Prize, and the Percy Ould Prize.
Annemi was selected to perform as soloist with the CAPAB Orchestra in the 1992 Youth Orchestra Festival. She has been a member of both the UCT Symphony Orchestra and String Ensemble, of which she was principal violist and orchestra manager 2001-2. She has also been an ad hoc member of the Cape Philharmonic since 1998.
As a member of the acclaimed MUSE String Quartet, of which she was violist until the 2004 when she left for abroad, she performed at high profile events such as the opening of the Cape Town Convention Centre, the Fancourt Spring Ball, the President Cup, Cape Town Fashion Week, the Brett Kebble Art Awards, and the 2003 New Year's Eve Concert at Kirstenbosch.
