Carina Bruwer

Carina Bruwer (www.carinabruwer.com), one of South Africa's top and most versatile young flautist (and coincidentally also a multi-record holding long distance swimmer), has won numerous performance awards at South Africa's most important music competitions.  These include ATKV Muziq Wind Instrument Category Prize, Distell Music Prize, UNISA Overseas Study Bursary Competition Runner-up prize and SAMRO prizes for her performance of Hendrik Hofmeyr's Flute Concerto.  She has performed as soloist with the Cape Philharmonic (CPO), Kwazulu Natal Philharmonic and University of Stellenbosch Symphony Orchestras (USSO), and has performed as ad hoc member of the CPO, USSO, SAAPA Orchestra and London Chamber Players Ensemble.  Carina received the degree BMUS.Hons (Performance) cum laude from the University of Stellenbosch in 2002, when she also received Academic Colours.

Equally at home on the Jazz stage, Carina is part of the Afro-Cuban band Salsa Candela, as well as SA's premiere flamenco band CASTA ALMA, and other ad hoc Jazz acts.
