Flautists

Gabriele von Durckheim, principal flute of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, received her first flute lessons from Eva Tamassy, and after finishing her Higher Licentiate at the University of Stellenbosch , continued her studies in England from renowned Flautist Trevor Wye. She is currently completing her M.Mus at the University of Stellenbosch under Bridget Rennie-Salonen.

Gabriele has won several prizes and awards including Category prize of the ATKV Musiq competition and Oude Meester Music Competition, and performs regularly as soloist and ensemble player. She has also been a member or several orchestras, including the renowned Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and the South African National Youth Orchestra.

 

Minette Maré started playing flute at the age of 11 with Theo Boekkooi. She finished her BMus (Cum Laude) in 2003 at the University of Stellenbosch with Dr. Corvin Matei as her teacher. She has attended a variety of master classes, amongst others that of Trevor Wye and Shigonoru Kudo. She has been part of various chamber music groups, taking part in concerts and competitions. Minette was a semi-finalist in the national Musiq competition in 2002 and 2005 and winner of the Mabel Quick Bursary competition (2002). She was a part of University of Stellenbosch’s Symphony Orchestra (USSO) from 2001, where she was elected principle flute from 2003 to 2004. She made her debut with USSO in 2003, playing Mozart’s Concerto in D major and performed Chimarosa’s double concerto in G major (2004, CTCO) and Mozart’s concerto in G major (2005, USSO). Minette played for CTPO and KZNPO as a cadet in 2004 and 2005 (flute, picollo and alto flute) and was Cape Town Chamber Orchestra’s (CTCO) principle flute in 2004. She finished her Masters in Flute Performance in the year 2008 (with Dr. Corvin Matei) and is currently studying medicine at Tygerberg Hospital.
